league 2002! - da Finalz! |
The Konviktz ended up 1-1-1 in the finals tournament, ending up in a tie with a Sisters of Battle Army, barely (10 victory points) loosing to a Blood Angels force complete with Death Company, and slaughtering a bloodthirster, Korne worshipping Chaos army. Overall, we were happy with the results. After the whole thing was said and done we got to know our own army and units pretty well - using them on a constant basis certainly helped.
For official league results, see the DAKKA DAKKA STAT PAGE.
For the future, here are our notes.
We were pleased with almost all of our units. The especially effective ones were the 'ard boyz, the tankbustas, and the burna boyz. The shoota boyz were also extremely effective, much more than people would want you to think. The real heroes of army list were the gitz though - they not only won four battles in regular play, but in each of the final's games they played a key role.
There are two units that were a big disappointment. They were..
Now onto the battles!
Battle 1: Bob and boyz faced their old nemesis the Sisters of Battle! We found this fitting, as our very first battle in the league was against this very same army - and the result was a tie!
The battle was Dawn Assault - where the first round is under night fight rules, and after that, it was open shooting!
The battle result - A tie! We couldn't think of a better result - a fun battle, thanks Eben!
No on to the fun stuff. Pictures!
Dawn breaks on the urban battlefield..
The early morning sun highlights this squad of battle sisters advancing over the septic waters of the Hive.
With the emergence of the day, mass hand to hand combat erupts in the middle of the battlefield.
The sisters, with their redemptionists advance into the waiting ork forces...
These Seraphim gave us no end of trouble - including destroying the battle cannon, one sponson flamer, and the big shooter on the looted russ. The day was saved, however, by the GITZ! who took one down with shooting, and another two in the assault phase! |
Battle 2: An agonizingly close loss to the Blood Angels! We came up just 10 victory points short of a tie with this Blood Angels Force. What cost us the battle was the inability to sink one of his three dreadnoughts - we pumped about 9 shots into it before we could finally destroy it! Those wasted shots, helped, as well as his Death Company. These Marines of cheese get up on a roll of four or better. Our opponent was rolling very well - the konviktz honestly put them down about 5 times per model before wiping them out! In the end it was the gretchin that saved us - he assaulted them with his death company, and the gitz tied them up long enough for the slugga boyz to wheel into combat and choppa them to death (repeatedly!) This was the second time that I have fought a Death Company, and let me tell you, they are really, really tough. A fun game overall though.
Still stuck in an urban battlefield, the konviktz spread out in the town green and begin hunting human targets.
The Russ lines up a nice clean shot down this avenue. Unfortunately, due to a smoke screen, its shot which landed square on the Death Company Rhino did little but rip off the storm bolter. The next turn found the Chaplin crunching the battle cannon barrel with this power fist.
The orks pop this rhino, and a tactical squad engages the 'ard boyz and Bob. Alas, this tac squad was soon eliminated.
The Death Company charges the gretchin (to the left of the obelisk). This proved a good thing for us, as the mighty gitz stood up to the charge and tied them up long enough for the slugga boyz (on the right) to whip into action. The death company had already forced the trukk boyz (on the far right) to break, but they were able to regroup and hop back into the 'eavy chevy.
Urban chaos! the center of the table was green, orky green! |
Battle 3 : A smashing victory! This battle was against our long time nemisis John Wakelin, co-owner of Dakka Dakka and his Korne force of Chaos. John's Bloodthirster, in our last meeting, slaughtered da boyz, and we were eager for a rematch.
Luck played a huge roll in this game, as we were rolling hot, hot, hot, and our opponent was not, not, not. For example, it took chaos 4 rounds of shooting with a predator to finally destroy the battle cannon on the russ, and on our very next turn our Mekboy rolled a 6 to fix it!!! A chaos flamer template laid neatly over 9 orks, only to not wound a single one! Ork shooting proved devastating, wiping out an entire havoc squad, and immobilizing two rhinos in the first turn alone!
The gitz again played a huge roll, as his summoned daemons charged them in the jungle. Our brave and fearless gitz fought on, killing three of them to bring their unit under 50%! The gretchin refused to run until turn six, when only the slaver was still standing. Still, for a 90 pt unit the gretchin not only got their points back, but tied up his unit the entire game. I love my gitz!
Bob, alas, fell to the bloodthirster again, but this time, the 'ard boy nob got some payback, killing it in two rounds of hand to hand combat.
This was a recon mission, and in the end, the konviktz had 5 complete units in his deployment zone, including the slugga boyz who walked the whole way over, crushing a 10 man chaos tac squad in the process. That was over 1000 bonus victory points right there!
I had a lot of fun, and John was a great sport. Can't wait to face him again!
The tankbustaz charge into the rhino, and immobilize it. Unfortunately for them, the chaos forces jump out and engage in hand to hand. Chula, his daemon prince, is about to crunch the hapless dreadnought.
There they go! the sluggas march up the side of the battlefield, while in the back ground the burnas stick near the russ to provide it with cover from the kuston force field.
6 chattering, gibbering daemons spy the hapless gitz in the woods, and charge in for the kill...
and unfortunately for them, they find themselves stuck in hand to hand combat for four turns! Here, just the slaver and squig hound still stand. |
This league was a lot of fun, thanks a lot DAKKA DAKKA!
