1500 points, Mission Take and Hold, Omega Level
Ah, another Sunday battle against my old tin ‘ead skumgrod Jeremy. Over the past couple of years I have been fortunate enough to run about 50/50 in our battles, and all of them, even kill team missions, end up extremely close.
I fielded…
Warboss Bob [cybork body, eavy armor,
bionic bonce, choppa, kombi shoota/skorcha)
Sluggas (20 boys with 1 burna and 1 bigshoota, 1 nob with pklaw and choppa)
Shoota boys (11 boys with 3 bigshootaz, 1 nob with bigshoota and choppa)
Tankbustas (9 boys with 3 rokkits, 1 nob with rokkit and choppa)
Ardboyz (14 boyz with 3 burnas, 1 nob with pklaw and choppa)
Buggy (twin linked rokkits, extra armor, red paint, grot rigger)
Trakk (kustom mega blasta, red paint, grot rigger, spikes and blades)
Buggy (twin linked Bigshootaz, red paint, grot rigger)
Kanz (2 with rokkits, one with big shootaz, all with extra plates)
Looted Lemen Russ (red paint, grot riggers)
Battlewagon (red paint, riggers, armor plates, zzapp gun, 2x twin linked big
shootaz)
And he had
Warriors (3 units of 10+)
Pariahs (6)
Necron lord (with orb)
Scarabs (9 bases)
Destroyers (5)
Destroyer (bigger one – one)
We rolled up take and hold, and omega level. Escalation. Great. He deployed first, and I went first.
The tankbustas, sluggaz, Bob, and the shootaz were on the table, facing the warrior squads and his lord, and the Pariahs. All three ork units went immediately into cover (ruined buildings), and with good night vision rolls (they’d been eating their squig carrots apparently), started shooting. With typical ork efficiency, after 4 rokkits, and 5 bigshootaz, just one Necron fell, and failed to get up.
Return fire accounted for two shoota boyz, and with that, dawn broke over the battlefield
For ork reserves on turn two, the Lemen Russ, and the Kans showed up. The Russ anchored the far end of the table, and lined up on a warrior squad with a battle cannon shot.
The kans took it up the middle, and the orks continued to fire across the street at the necrons, surprisingly killing 2 warriors, and killing a scarab base. The Battle cannon on the russ bellowed, and two more tin ‘eadz disappeared.
His reserve roll got him - nada! Necron shooting killed another couple of shoota boyz, but that was about it. The scarabs moved up to the objective, but the rest of the warriors held back to shoot.
Turn three the battlewagon, big shoota buggy, and rokkit buggy showed up. The russ smashed through a ruined building, and opened fire again at the same warrior squad, killing 3 more. The rokkit buggy and BS buggy helped, bringing that unit down to four warriors. On the other side of the table the tankbustas and shoota boyz took out a pariah, and a couple more warriors, while the kans fired into the scarabs, removing one more base. The battlewagon moved up 12 inches, and the ‘ardboyz jumped in for protection.
He got the heavy destroyer in on reserve, who promptly fired and ripped the weapon off of a kan, stunning it as well. The small 4 tin ‘ead squad advanced, and killed 2 sluggaz in the building. The shoota boys took the brunt of enemy fire, cutting that squad down to 4 models. They failed their morale check, but a roll of a 1 and a 2 found them making the ‘ead check!
The Scarabs assaulted the bwagon, as they were disrupter field enabled. Needing 6’s to hit because it had moved over 6 inches, he got nothing, despite having 7 bases in contact.
Turn four for the green skins, the last buggy (KMB) came in from reserve. The bwagon rammed through the scarabs, and Bob and the ‘ardboyz on board roasted all but one base of the scarabs. The shoota boyz wiped out the last of them, and the two kans who could moved up, shot, and assaulted the 4 warrior squad, killing 2 from shooting and eliminating the rest, all while retaining coherency. The russ fired off down range, and crushed another 3 tin ‘eads with battle cannon fire. The buggies fired, and did little, except for the KMB buggy, which promptly immobilized itself! 3 more warriors fell from Tankbusta fire.
He amazingly still failed to get the 5 destroyers on the table top, but did manage to destroy the bwagon with the heavy destroyer’s shot. The ‘ard boys bailed out, and between to bail out losses and shooting, were cut down from 14 to about 7. Another 5 sluggas died to gauss guns, but not enough to make the boyz break.
Turn five the kans moved up and fired into the heavy destroyer, missing everything. The ‘ardboyz were pinned, so the sluggas moved up beside them and behind the wrecked bwagon. The Russ fired at the ‘eavy destroyer, but deviated off. The buggies proved ineffective, except for the KMB buggy, which templated and killed 2 warriors, helping out the tankbustas which took down another one.
He finally got the destroyers, and they came on and killed 6 tankbustas with shooting fire Ouch. Glad they weren’t around earlier! He advanced towards the objective, the ‘eavy destroyer firing and missing the kanz totally. The tankbustaz fled back along the tabletop.
Turn six. The ‘ardboyz got a good difficult terrain role, and made it up over the top of the wrecked bwagon. The kans advanced up, and the lemen russ blasted out of terrain, and moved up for another shot. The tankbustaz continued to fall back. The grot riggers got the KMB buggy moving, and it backed up to keep some range between itself and the destroyers.
The battle kannon reached out, and eliminated 7 necrons. Only two would rise back up thanks to the orb!
A pathetic difficult terrain role in assault allowed only 5 ‘ardboyz to get into hand to hand, and between them and the kanz, the 5 warrior unit was shredded. The Kanz consolidated into base to base with the Lord, and the ‘ardboyz into the pariahz.
His turn six he ran the destroyers up full speed to try and claim the objective, and the ‘eavy destroyer as well. The ‘eavy shot at the buggies but missed, but the destroyers had moved too far for them to fire. In hand to hand the pariahs killed 1 ‘ard boy, and the nob personally wiped out all four with his powerklaw. The two warriors that got back up from the previous hand to hand were taken down by burna boyz, and all attention came down to the Lord and the Kanz. He struck first, stunning one and immobilizing the other. In return, there were three str 10 hits, immediately krushing him. He passed one of the invulnerable saves, but failed the other two, and down the lord went.
He rolled for game length and it ended.
Results?
Ork scoring units within 12 of the objective – 3
Necron scoring units with 12 of the objective – 1
Victory points.
We didn’t count, but at the end all he had left were
5 destroyers
1 heavy destroyer
And the orks still had
Lemen Russ
All 3 buggies
3 kanz, one immobilized
slugga boyz above 50
‘ardboyz around but under 50
Bob.
