WH 40K Battle Report - Orks vs Dark Eldar

1000 points, Mission Cleanse, Gamma Level

As part of an ongoing weekly campaign, I met a Dark Eldar force

My fixed list for the campaign...

Warboss Bob [cybork body, eavy armor, bionic bonce, choppa, power klaw)
Sluggas (19 boys with 2 Bigshootaz, one burna, 1 nob with pklaw, shoota, and big gob)

Shoota boys (11 boys with 3 bigshootaz, 1 nob with bigshoota and choppa)
Gretchin (20 grots, 1 slavemaster with bigshoota, choppa, and squighound)
Trukk boyz in da Panzee Luuva (6 boyz witha burna, 1 nob with pklaw and choppa, Da Panzee Luuva has a red paint job, grot riggers, a reinforced ram, and a turbo boosta)
2 Buggies
(twin linked rokkits, extra armor, red paint, grot rigger)
3 Killa Kans (extra armor, 2 big shootas, one rokkit.)

And he had


Archon with all the toyz.
Wych squad with all the toyz in a raider.
2 x full warrior squads with blasters and dark lances
Warp beasts
Talos

I won table quarter, and chose my side. He began deployment with the Talos, and when we were done. I rolled higher for first turn. I really thought about this, and finally deceided to go first.

Turn 1. The buggies zoomed up the flank, the kans, the grots, and the sluggas moved up as well. I held the shootaz in place, and the trukkboyz with Bob in the back as a reserve. Shooting found the buggies blasting away at his wych laden raider, blowing it up, with four dead wyches! Elsewhere big shoota fire shredded two units of warriors, but both withstood their tests.

He advanced the talos, and the warpbeasts. His shooting killed destroyed one killa kan, and blew up a buggy, immoblizing the other. I did make one extra armor save on the immobilzed buggy!

Turn 2. I made my first mistake, and kept advancing! I should have stepped back one turn and let my big shootaz rake over him again, but I was sure Hakbash would call that weedy, so off we went! I failed my grot rigger role on the one buggy, and the two remaining kanz slid back over into our starting table quadrent. I moved the trukk up and across the table along the short edge. The sluggaz and grots advanced. Shooting was much less effective, only putting one wound on the Talos.

He advanced the talos and warpbeasts, and assaulted the grots with the warpbeasts. His shooting came up with the other buggy getting blasted, but that was it. The grots lost 4, but held on by their teeth (on the slaver's whip!)

Turn 3. I slid up the sluggaz to assault the warp beasts, and continued to shuffle the kanz up and over behind the big hill. Another round of concentrated ork fire came up empty. The sluggaz assaulted in, and they managed to kill off all of the warpbeasts, but the single wych hung in.

He shot and killed 4 sluggas with the talos, and than charged into that scrum with it, and the now charging, and raiderless wych squad. He killed 6 sluggaz with the wych attacks, but thanks to that, I was able to deny the Talos any swings. This was key, as the combat bogged down here. Most importantly, his Archon failed a difficult terrain roll, and couldn't get into hand to hand. We lost the combat, and the grots fled, but the sluggas stood their ground.

Turn 4. The panzee luuva moved up, and dropped off Bob and da truck boyz. They split up, and headed in two directions, Bob for the wyches, and the truckboyz for the warriors that had blasted the buggy. The kanz slid over, and moved up to assault the Talos. The sluggaz shredded a warrior squad, but the single remaining model made his save and stuck it in. With great cracks of his whip, the slaver managed to rally the grots. Bob shredded a wych with his choppa, and the rest of the slugga mob took 5 more casulties from the wyches and the Talos. Payback was painful though, as the powerklaw nob killed 4 wyches this time, wiping out the squad, and the kans totally munched the talos. Yet the single wych who started the combat with the warpbeasts remained!

He lept his arcon past my kans and towards the shoota boyz! (She had a 12 inch assault) I hadn't seen that coming! He also shot and killed two more truckboys, and his last wych in hand to hand got krumped propa by Bob. His archon assaulted and killed 2 shootaz, but again I was able to deny the other single assaulting Dark Eldar Warrior his attacks through casulty removal. The shootaz held

Turn 5. The Konviktz spread out to claim table quarters, with the below 50% sluggaz and Bob headed for the Archon. The shootaz held out for one more assault round, as the nob "Lefty" totally smoked the warrior. The rest couldn't get through the Archons shadow field though, and despite loosing 2 more shootaz, hung in.

He had nothing but one full warrior squad that never moved, and the Archon. At this stage the game was clearly an ork victory, but we played on! The Archon single handledly wiped out the shootaz in the hand to hand stage, making them break and running them down. She took shelter in the now empty bunker.

Turn 6. I moved up, and deceided not to try and assault the Archon. Only the last six slugga boyz would have made it in, and she still had her 2+ save. She did have a wound on her though (self inflicted), so I was hoping massed firepower would do it for me. I figured she'd have to assault me in the woods, and she didn't have plasma grenades.

The sluggas fired, pistols and burna, but no wounds. The grots fired, but no wounds. Finally, the kanz fired - the remaining big shoota kan first. Three dice, two hits. Two wounds. He rolled for his first save. A one! and the second - a three! She dies!

Battle Result - Orks Win! 3 table quarters owned, one contested. Massive victory point swing.

Boom! the buggies pop the raider, but loose one in return. Here come the warpbeasts!
The warpbeasts assault the gretchin.
Killing oodles.
The grots flee the next round, while the sluggaz stand in all proppa like.
Only to face a combined couter assault of wyches and the Talos!
The kanz are drawn towards the main melee.
Amazingly the sluggaz stick it out.
Here comes the calvary! the panzee luuva unloads, and da trukkaz size up the warrior squad.
With a krump, the squad is wiped out, and the trukkaz move back to the trukk.
the Archon bypasses the killer kanz, and advances on the shoota boyz!
Only to wipe them out in two turns of hand to hand. The bunker is Mine!
spinning on their axis, the kanz return to the fight.

Size up the Archon in the bunker.

And in a hail of large caliber sluggs, shred her.
