Triple play on the Mall

Warboss Bobz Killa Konvitkz vs da beakiez - n - flowery beekiz

This was a special fight, as part of our on going Medusa IV campaign. The week before, the Konvitkz had taken away the parade grounds surround the Governor's palace from the nids. and this week braced themselves for a combined assault by two Marine and one Sisters of Battle army.

The Konviktz wouldn't stand alone, however, as Warboss Zorbag'z Speed Freeks were close by, and lent their weight to the ork numbers. Strangely enough, due to their close victory the week earlier, Zorbag also managed to convince a detachment of Dark Eldar to the orks side.

As a result, the lists ended up being like this.

3650 points total.

3850 points total

We rolled up mission, and we ended up with meat grinder, and as they were attacking the konviktz sector, it was up to the imperials to play the role of the aggressor. This gave them the ability to recycle troop choices if they were either reduced to below fifty, or killed outright. Their goal was to wipe us off the table, otherwise the defender wins. Due to the table layout, we extended the deployment zones to 24 inches to keep the no man's land the same - 24 inches across. We decided that the two main combatants should deploy first, and than the allies, so myself and the Sister's were the first to take the field, followed by the ultramarines, speedfreaks, marines, and dark eldar.

My list was slightly modified, Bob and Zorbag had consulted and decided to play this one for kicks, and I brought out some models I don't normally or rarely field.

Bob
21 sluggaz w/3 bs, nob with pklaw
19 sluggaz w/3 bs, nob with pklaw
10 tankbustaz w/ 3 rokkitz, nob with rokkit & choppa and 3 ammo runts
20 grots with slaver w/bs, squighound, tankbusta bomb choppa
19 shootaboyz with 3 bss, nob with bs and choppa
2 buggies with twin linked BSs, toys
1 buggy with twin linked BS, toys
1 buggy with twin linked rokkits, toys.
looted basilisk
2 lobbaz with extra crew and slaver
da Kr00zAda with all the repped toys

I'll let Zorbag and Tin'ead J report their lists (Tin'ead was the Ultramarine player), but roughly, we were facing (combined)

4 whirlwinds
min maxed beakie tac squads
predator
land speeder tornado
vindicator
2 drop pod dreadnoughts
another dreadnought
seraphim
bunches of sisters
imperial fanatics
etc

Deployment

Konviktz deployment went first, anchored by the Mighty Kr00zAda!

Tankbustaz in the rocks, and Zorbag's outriders lined up for a first turn move.

Ultramarines occupied the center and far right, with sisters behind them.

The rest of Zorbag's forces set up on the far left of the table, behind a small hill. Odds were the enemy would see the exhaust fumes anyway.

And opposite Zorbag, the other marines and the remaking foot mounted sisters lined up behind and in this small wood.

While in and behind the grot wall, the Dark Eldar took up position.

Turn 1.
The defenders won the turn choice, and went first. Shells from the basilisk rained down, and killed a couple of seraphim The remainder of the Konviktz moved forward, to try and bring their guns to bear. A few ultramarines in the woods fell, but mostly da boyz missed. The Dark Eldar advanced in line, and Zorbag and his boyz, following a quick kunnin' taktics discussion earlier, followed the plan and abandoned the left side of the table, running his rigs back around da Konviktz. His outriders were able to assault the predator, and destroyed it in h2h before it's deadly las cannons could be brought to bear on the basilisk or Zorbag's looted russ.

Zorbag's outriders zoom forward, quickly outpacing the rest of the defending army.

and slam into the side of the predator

Yes! Zorbag does the funky warboss dance as the powerklaw ripped the systems out of the side of the marine tank.

Their shooting was not overly impressive, killing a couple of grots, a slugga boy, and destroying a buggy of mine, one of Zorbag's and also one of his empty trukks. Best was the waste of a hunterkiller missile from one whirlwind, as it, amazingly, missed the side of da Kr00zAdaThe imperial fanatics hit the outriders though, and shredded them in one turn of assault.

Seeing the departing ork vehicles, this marine speeder advanced to hit the large ork mobs, but found them just a bit out of range.

Meanwhile the Konviktz and Dark Eldar move forward en-masse.

Turn 2.
Turn two began the reversal of ork motion; the Konviktz left flank began to fade back, as they moved away from the marines and sisters on the far left side. Zorbag continued his moves, moving up his trucks to right behind the main konvikt forces. The left hand side of the table was now basically abandoned by the defenders, other than a screening grot mob, some shoota boyz, and the lobbaz. The Basilisk fire rained down, and devastated a sister's rhino, killing a few as they bailed out. Other BS fire resulted in the land speeder getting stunned, a couple of fanatics dead, and a couple more beakies. The tankbustaz has moved up to engage the vindicator, and as what seems to be the norm lately, missed with their rokkits. The twin linked rokkit buggy missed as well.

The boyz begin fading back on the left side.

as the basilisk round hits

and pinned sisters bail out of their transport.

Their shooting was a bit more effective, as the vindicator round deviated off of the Dark Eldar right onto the Kr00zAda, crushing the kannon. Another las shot from the dreadnought ripped off a sponson weapon. The boyz and Bob bailed out, unhurt. The fanatics charged in, and attacked the twin linked rokkit buggy, but couldn't hurt in in h2h. Careful placement of the konvitkz other big shoota buggy made the imperials take, and fail a huge amount of target priority rolls, and the buggy ate a slew of las cannon and missile shots, but was only immobilized. Whirlwind rounds caught and killed some Dark Eldar, and combined with some heavy bolter fire, began to chew up the grots. The bigest loss was the Zzap truck, that had rolled a whopping 7 for combined armor pen in our shooting phase; it got totally capped by a krak missile.

The "buggy lure" makes it's move.

and here come the fanatics!

Turn 3.
The general shift continued, and the grots and shootaz were now safely out of firing range along the left side. The lobbas finally hit the speeder, and immobilized it, and we left it and it's 24 inch range assault cannon behind. The surge on the right continued forward, despite the withering fire of the imperials. The basilisk came up short, and deviated worthlessly off of the top of the vindicator. Once again, the tank bustaz fired four rokkits, with 2 ammo runts scurrying to get extra shots, and didn't hit with one of them. The lure buggy was repaired, but still stunned.

Realizing their left side was now pretty useless, the imperials began moving forward, to little too late, and too slow. Both whirlwinds moved up 12 inches, and the foot troops slowly climbed out of the woods. Things faired better for them on the right side though, as the other sister's rhino, fearing a similar fate, ran up through the woods, and unloaded 10 angry women in power armor. They fired into the equally, if not more angry elven women, killing a couple, but not enough to make them turn tail. The vindicator round fired again, and decimated another advancing Dark Eldar unit.

The sisters disembark!

Turn 4.
Bob and the sluggaz got back in the Kr00zAda, and rammed forward through the wreckage. A massive amount of BS fire from the sluggaz on board, with the bolt ons, and the twin linked sponson that still operated finally shredded the rest of the fanatics. As normal, the left side units continued to fall back, taking pot shots at sisters as they could with BS fire. The lobbaz missed a librarian horribly, but the basilisk connected cleanly on one of the far left side whirlwinds, shattering it, and killing a few more sisters in the resulting explosion. The remaining tankbustas moved into cover, and proceded to miss the vindicator, again. Assault time! The angry witches charged the sisters, and got locked into combat. with them, and the Talos moved up and assaulted the vindicator, finally destroying it's cannon.

The lure buggy did it's job again, drawing fire that was headed for other targets, and survived unscathed. A cannoness jetpacked up behind it, and managed to stun it only, it was still mobil! Seraphim landed in gouts of flame, and got locked in with the witches, but not before the dark eldar wiped out the foot mounted sisters. Combined shooting managed to finally destroy the talos outright. Their dreadnought fired, and finally managed to kill the Kr00zAda, killing 8 of the boyz inside.

And than the drop pods came down, each carrying a fat dreadnought. The dreads popped out, and between two of them wiped out one grot and 10 sluggaz in one of the mobs

.

The long slow march across the table.

moments before detonation

Wotz dis den?

aaargh!

Turn 5.

The game was increasingly over, but the shot up sluggaz, grots, and bailed out sluggaz charged into one drop pod dread, while the shoota boyz turned back and dumped a lot of firepower into the rear amor of the other. Zorbag charged one, but Bob couldn't get into base to base. The slaver tagged one with a tankbusta bomb, but failed to penetrate the armor (bloody grots!), but the powerklaws of the nobs from each mob made short work of it. Zorbag failed worse though, and got pulped by the other one before he could strike, the nob in his mob destroying the dreadnought CC weapon though.

Bob charged on the assist, and kurmped dat zoggin' dreadnought good 'n proppa.

Charge!

Oi! dat wasn't gud!

Too many for even a mighty dreadnought to handle. Look out for that walkin' barrel!

Let me show you how it's done, yoof.

Apparently the latest model of Imperial Space Marine Drop Pod sports a new slogan. "Real help in real time"

Results.
Konviktz win, with no little thanks to our allies. We stopped the game due to time of day in the 5th, but it wouldn't have mattered - the imperials on the right side of the table simply had no where near enough firepower to eliminate the defending units in one, two, or three more turns, and the ones on the left were advancing very slowly at 6 inches a turn to be of any effect.

In a lot of way the imperium hurt itself through "clever" tactics; they had a stand and shoot army that simply couldn't react fast enough on this large table. It was easy for us to ignore, for the most part, a fair portion of their army. Their deployment also was a boon, as they put all of their fast units (sisters in rhinos, and seraphim) on the same side side, allowing us to hit those first. Odds are they didn't expect the basilisk either, but I wanted to bring units that I almost never or seldom field (lobbaz, the bassie, etc) just for fun.

So the Konviktz hold the parade ground, and will be attacking next week the governor's palace, which is swarming with bugs. That will be a fight that will have the Konviktz outnumbered by over 200 pts, and we'll be fighting solo. But that's not the only fight we face; the Dark Eldar, after the victory, turned and attacked the Konviktz garrison in the Parade ground, the two marine armies are joining up again to go two on one against us in another sector, and more bugs have attacked far to the rear.

What can Gooba and Bob say, but that this is the best summer holdiay ever. WAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHH!
