Deployment:

The konviktz got table side, and failed the deployment roll, so we went first. The Russ anchored one end with the two twin linked rokkit buggies behind it, and a shoota mob in a wooded hillock next to it. Just to the left of center the grots were in front, with a mob of sluggaz behind them.

More shoota boyz held the very center, with kanz and the dread to their right, backed by another mob of slugga boyz and bob. Finally, the twin linked shoota buggy and the skorcha buggy lined up to the far right behind a building.

The freakz lined up a zzap gun truck, two bs buggies, and a mob of trukkaz against the Russ side, his Russ sat in the center, and more buggies, tankbustas, another mob of trukkaz and his retinue the side facing the kans.

Preliminary bombardment: Screaming from the sky, the spead freek fighta bomma raid was pretty effective, stunning the bs buggy, one kan, and killed off 5 of the shootas in the center, pinning them for turn one!

Turn 1. The Zogger got to go first too! He was a bit nervous facing the experienced horde of konvitkz, and decided not to charge forward, but instead soften up our lines with shooting. The gun truck rolled up, and fired the zzzap at the Russ, and getting a ten for strength. Right about now I was wishing I had put on the extra armor plates, but like a good git, he rolled a one and a two for armor pen…..

His russ fired down range at my sluggaz, and wounded five. Lo and behold hapless grots found themselves quickly grab and used as meat shields by the four quicker boyz, leaving just one slugga dead. BS fire raked my shoota boys to no effect, and the remainder of his fire pummeled into the kans, destroying one.

My turn, and things would fair a bit better. Across the line, the grots, kans, dread, and sluggaz advanced towards him.

The rokkit buggies zoomed up from behind cover, and obliterated the gun truck. My shoota boyz ripped into the trukkas on that side, destroying the truck and forcing the boyz to dismount pinned. My russ fired down range, destroying one buggy and taking the weapon off of the other. The kan that could fire did nothing, nor did the other (pinned) shootaz or the sluggaz, who had snuck their three rokkit totin’ boyz up to the front. The skorcha buggy zoomed up for some hot turn two action.

Turn 2. With one side of the table gone for him, he focused on the other. He moved the tankbustas up, and dismounted from the truck into some woods.

His other units adjusted for focused BS fire on the konviktz. His Russ blasted at the dreadnought, and the shot deviated, killing 4 sluggaz behind. Other BS shooting took out another 6 sluggaz, leaving the mob down to 10 including the nob, and killing all three rokkit boyz. He tried again at the kans, but was unable to do any damage this turn. The badly mauled sluggaz held though.

I now had my unit of shootas unpinned, and they moved up into cover. My russ tracked more buggies down range, but the shot deviated, and instead destroyed his empty tankbusta war truck. The kans, shoota boys (both units) and grots emptied into the tankbustas, killing 6 (the grots alone got two!). The zogging’ tankbustaz failed their leadership, but he got a 3 on his head count!!! The skorcha trakk zipped up, and flamed up his other trukkboy mob, destroying the truck and killing one on the way out, pinning them.

Turn 3. The boys that could on his side moved, his four remaining tankbustas moved for a better shot at the dreadnought. They were able to immobilize the beast, effectively removing it as a scoring unit. He shot at and stunned and immobilized the skorcha trakk, hopelessly in the open. The russ shot deviated onto nothing, and the remainder of his fire pounded the cans to no effect. His weaponless buggy screamed up and tankshocked the grots, who simply laughed this off.

The grots continued to advance across the table, and shot into the tankshocking buggy, failing to damage it. No one, including the sluggaz with burnaz, or the rokkit buggies could damage this dumb thing. The skorcha track got fixed, and it beat feet out there. The tank bustas were wiped out with focused fire, and he lost another buggy to BS fire from the shoota boyz. Finally, his warboss truck was blown up as well, but the retinue only took one wound and were not pinned.

Turn 4. His russ failed it’s roll, and stay stuck in position. The battle cannon roared, and killed 3 shoota boyz in the woods. His foot mounted truck boyz squads moved and fired BSs at that mob, as well as the kans, but did no damage. His one remaining buggy zipped back around towards the russ, but also was unable to wound the shootaz. His warboss squad, with 5 bs’s in it, killed 3 more shootaz in the other mob, reducing that unit to 4 models, but the konvkitz held.

My russ also failed its roll, meaning no kannon shot as it moved forward 7 inches. The grots continued their terrifying advance across the battlefield, and the rest of my army sat back, except for the kans and buggies, which shifted forward for better shots. The lemen russ heavy bolter killed off his last buggy, and the combined fire from the kans, and slugga boyz wiped out 3 of his right side truck boyz. In a moment of harrowing excitement, and much to his displeasure, the grots assaulted the russ, the slaver carefully placing the tankbusta bomb on its front hull. We all held our breath, as the bomb, with a huge flash, failed to go off (rolled a 1 for armor pen!!!).

Turn 5. He backed up his russ, and flamed (dual sponsons) and heavy bolstered 15 of the grots to death. Amazingly, the grots held their ground! (There was one grot, the slaver, and squighound left!!!). The trukkaz on the left continued their fruitless fire into my shoota boyz, and the ones on the right kept firing hoplessly at the kans. His warboss mob moved up the alley, and was able to destroy the skorcha trakk with concentrated fire.

My russ fired again down field at his hq squad, but deviated well off of target. Another two of his right side trukkas fell to shooting, but that was it. The grots assaulted the russ again, but failed to hit it on a four.

Turn 6. He counted up scoring units, and realized that he’d have to kill four of mine, and not lose any of his to tie. In a last push, he dumped fire into my russ with his, failing to damage it, into my shoota boyz, reducing them to below half, but they held, and again into the kans, but the impertinent kans simply shrugged of the 15 incoming BS shots.

My last turn, the russ turned and decimated his truck squad, killing 4 and bringing it down below 50%. The other models all basically missed, but in a last ditch effort (because my grots are as hard as nails), the grots assaulted, and needing a six to hit, nailed the russ with the tankbusta bomb, immobilizing it, and removing it as a scoring unit!!! Go Grots Go!!!

End result – he had two scoring units- his retinue, and one truck boy squad above 5 models. His other two units on the field, his other truck boy squad, and the russ, were below 50% and immobilized respectively.

The konviktz had a full mob (19 of 20) of sluggaz, two kans, three buggies, and another mob of sluggaz above 50% for scoring units. My other units included the immobile dread, and the two shoota boy mobs who were down to 3 and 4 models, and the poorly decimated grots.

We didn’t do victory points on this, but we took out

And he killed

His mistakes, I think, were not being aggressive enough. He has a lot of shooty bitz, but so do I. He has a warboss retinue, and instead of getting it stuck in, he dilly dallied around with it, doing little. True had he charged he would have faced a counter charge with either 2 kans and Warboss bob, or Warboss bob and 10 slugga boyz, but I think he was put out a bit by the solid line of green.

Again the kans show their worth as fire magnets. He’s lucky that he managed to immobilize the dread, for had he not, he had nothing to take it out except for powerklaws.
