Triple Play on the Mall

Warboss Bobz Killa Konviktz decided to get back on the battlefield, where we joined the ‘Ardboyz tourney at our local game store yesterday, and, sad to say, my camera battery was dead, so no pictures! (a real shame, as I even brought 5 boxes of terrain to help flush out the store for the day).
The ‘ardboyz tourney is aimed at finding the “best” players, and is 2500 points, with no painting or sportsmanship requirements.AKA Cheesefest. That made this hard for me, as I don’t feel that I have much cheese, and truth be told, the new codex discussion has taken a great wind out of my sails, so I didn't spend too much time making up a list. I ran
Warboss Bob
3 killa kanz
1 battle wagon (da Kr00zAda)
1 looted russ
2 x slugga mobs with nob with klaw
1 x shoota mob with nob
1 x tankbusta mob with nob
1 x burnaboy mob with mek and oilers
1 grot mob
1 buggy with kmb
2 buggies with rokkits
2 buggies with bs
1 mob skarboyz
1 mob kommandoes (da gray gobs)
Not a lot of cheese, I know, but they were at least painted… All of the troops were at 20+ other than those that couldn't be, and those were maxed. The scars counted at 12, and vehicles had toys on them (Like spikes and blades)
Game 1 vs Nids
The Mission was get across the table, no VPs, and I chose first turn. Due to good dice on my part, and bad dice on his side, by turn four I had wiped him from the battlefield. Not a nid stood, which was no small feet as he had 5 Big bugs. Ork shooting was spot on, and raped his genestealers with bs fire; I was able to charge him with sluggaz and shredded them with CC.
The Scarboyz and Bob charged forward in the bwagon, unloaded, and personally crumped 3 of the big bugs. His winged Hive tyrant got tied up a fresh slugga mob,and in the end, 9 sluggaz still stood.
I lost the grots in that game, and a couple of buggies (spikes an blades told a horrific tale), and 2 other units under 50%
Massacre to the Orks.
Game 2 vs Death Guard
Al l the good dice I had last game left me, and jumped right into his pocket. No joke. I think I had a fair chance at this one, but my dice were so bad, and his so good, that it didn't matter. The mission was VP, table quarters and center field, and all troops were held in reserve.
By turn two, da Kr00zAda, fully laden with skarboyz and Bob himself, was obliterated by indirect round from one of his two defilers; that 600vp point setback was only the beginning. He destroyed the russ on a glancing 6, as well as 4 of my 5 buggies and a kan.
The Tankbustaz didn't’t’ show up until turn 5, and despite killing both defilers, his land raider, taking the turret off of his predator, and wiping out a squad of the guard (and a couple of predators) and most of one unit of demons, the VP with table quarters lent itself as massacre against me. I hate to blame dice, but this was one of those cases where everything went wrong for me on the dice rolls, both his and mine. Brad, the Chaos general, ended up winning the tournament. Congrats, Brad!
For those “mathhammer” strokes who are reading, up yours! Try Averaging that!
Game 3 vs Necrons
Tin’eads. In a Cheese game. Crap. Good news was, he only had two monoliths. Oh, and a Nightbringer. It was modified loot counter mission, with two counters that were safely in each of our zones. My dice continued to laugh at me from another dimension, as after three turns, only one tin’ead had fallen (true, both of his scarab units got wiped out by hand to hand combat, but they don’t really count, do they?)
Finally in turn 4 the tankbustaz hit one monolith 4 times and blew it up. The kroozada had been wiped out, and warboss bob and the skarboyz hit the other in close combat immobilizing it. The kans, in what will most likely be a shooting star style moment of glory before they get hosed in the new codex, ate so much gauss rifle fire it was not funny, even shrugging off hits with the nicely duct taped pieces of old beer can (read extra armor) strapped to their sides. In the end though, His nightbringer failed to kill my grots (they were aided by a slugga boy mob with klaw), and we ended up in perfect draw.
Conclusion.
All in all, a 1-1-1 record vs cheese isnt' too bad for a stock balanced list, even more so as I haven't played 40k in at leats a month. I should add though, that I have have serious worries about the proposed codex based on my experience. I was able to wade, slowly, through his carnifexes and hive tyrants thanks to the lowly choppa - sure I had 40 attacks from my sluggaz, and needed sixes to wound, but if it wasn't for the armor reduction, my boyz would still be there swinging away. Only in one battle did a carnifex go down in the first round when I assaulted, and that was only because the scarboyz (also going away) with burnas (also going away in mobs) and their choppas did 5 of the 7 wounds on him, and Warboss Bob finished him off.
I thought about what this combat would have been like without choppas, and I am NOT encouraged.
