WH 40K Battle Report - Orks vs Eldar (Swordwind)

Warboss Bobz Killa Konviktz vs Eldar (Swordwind)

1500 pt lists, Take and Hold, alpha level.(Triple Play Fall 40k League).

Game Setup:
Warboss Bobz Killa Konviktz vs panzee Swordwind.

1500 point league game, mission - seek and destroy, omega level.

This was another game I was a bit concerned about, as this Swordwind list would be hard one for me. 4 wave serpents, one falcon, and a wrathlord...and me with just 3 rokkits in the sluggaz, one on the dread, and two twin linked rokkit buggies. THe big issue for me would be popping him out of his damn vehicles; I didn't have a lot of concerns about his foot troops.

We didn't get dusk or dawn, but escalation meant that only his three scouts would be on the table vs both my slugga and shoota mobs, bob, and the infamous gretchin.

Konviktz Deployment.

My scheme here was to heavily anchor one end of the table with my boyz, and try and lure him in to hit me in the flank. I had a full mob of sluggaz with burnaz guarding that flank, but I was hoping to get my reserves in after he was there, to get that vital up-the-backside shot on his vehicles.

Swordwind Deployment - all three scouts!!!

We roll for first turn, and I win, but due to the reserves issue, I decide to let him go first.

Turn 1.

His rangers fire into my shoota boyz, and fail to wound.

My turn, and my troops more forward to get into better cover (the buildings were right across the my deployment edge).

Da boyz unloaded 28 big shoota shots from both shoota mobs and the grot slaver. The result, even with a 3+ cover save?

Turn 2.

On came his wraithlord, and four waveserpents, Two full banshee squads, a firedragon squad, and his farseer with warlocks.

His shooting amounted to a couple of dead grots and shoota boyz, but not a whole heck of a lot. Thank goodness for being in cover!!!

I got for reserves the lemen russ, twin linked BS buggy, skorcha buggy, and killer kanz. they all advanced. I kept my main battle line still, only slightly advanceing the grots and shoota boyz in the trees. Bob moved up to where he could lend his support as well. On the far left the sluggaz advanced, and despite not having a rear shot I put the russ over there as well. The buggies that did come on, again not having a rear shot, and the kans, advanced behind my solid block of troops.

The russ belched a battle cannon round, aimed squarely at the command toting wave serpent. A big 6 inch deviation put the shell squarely on the fire dragon wave serpent, and despite having moved, a 6 on the glancing damage chart smashed the elegent vehicle to the ground. It was a small fire dragon squad, and only one died, leaving the remaining four pinned.

Massed Big Shoota fire from both big shoota mobz, the slaver, and the twin linked buggy pummeled into the wraithlord, causing not one wound. That's 30 BS shots!

Turn 3:
His falcon came on, and lent its shots to the dazzling array of high power weaponry on the table. In what would be a horrible turn of dice rolling (so bad he went and bought new dice during the game!!), he hit my models with almost everyhing - a wave serpent starcannoned a killer kan (ones to armor pen), the pulse laser hit with two shots (ones to pen), the star cannon on the falcon hit with 3 shots (ones to pen), and the wraith lord took a shot at the shoota boyz as it advanced, also rolling ones to wound!!!

Things on the the other side of the table changed though as his other banzee waveserpent glided up, and put a brightlance shot into the lemen russ, penetrating, and destroying it outright.

I got the dreadnought, the twin linked buggies were still out in the boondocks somwhere. I advanced the dread up behind my block of troops.....

and moved the gretchin out of cover to where they would have an assault on the farseer's waveserpent.

go grots go!!!

The sluggaz with rokkits in the right side bunker immoblized the banshee squad's waveserpent, causing the rig to crash and killing four on exit.

The three killer kanz added their big shoota fire to the twin linked buggy, and shoota boy mobs, who now dumped 36 big shoota shots into the wraithlord Yeah, we did one wound!!!

In the assault phase, the grots charged the wave serpent, and the slaver Slapgit grabbed his tankbusta bomb.

He had a hard time getting it to stick to the wave serpent though, apparently grot saliva isn't as viscous as he believed.

Turn 4.

The good banshee wave serpent moved up, and dropped the banshees, who fleet of footed towards my burna slugga mob. The fire dragons advanced through terrain, and he moved his wraithlord into the trees (he was nervous about the sluggaz with rokkits) and it killed off another shoota boy or two. The farseer wave serpent back up, and put a missle into the grots, pinning them. Finally, the falcon moved closer, and destroyed a killer kan with the pulse laser.

He assaulted the sluggaz, and killed 7 on the way in, only loosing one lady in return. I breathed a sigh of relief, as here was 27 power weapon attacks, and 3 str 5 powerweapon attacks from the banshees. We, of course, stuck it in!!

My turn four, and the twin linked buggies finally showed up, and dropped two twin linked rokkts exactly as the plan had intended - right up the tailpipes of the now empty banshee waveserpent. Both missed.

Bob moved up, and prepared to assault the falcon.

I streched out the shootas, just in case he would face return fire...

Shooting went as usual - the shoota boyz and twin linked buggy raked the wraithlord again with fire, and caused one wound. The dreadnought and sluggaz fired at him as well, but missed. The two kans fired, and missed. Back to assault!! The skorcha buggy zipped up, and laid a template on the dismounted banshees, killing 5 of 6, and only leaving the exarch - who passed her test!!!

Now to the squig on a stick bit. Assault!!!

Bob charged the falcon, and got one 6 to hit. A full pen, but reduced to glancing due to motion, and he holofield at least made the thing stunned.

The banshees this time, lacking a charge bonus, killed two sluggaz. Oh, oh. Five banshees fell in return, and he broke and ran, faster than we could catch him.

Turn 5:

The empty wave serpent turned, and unloaded into the rokkit buggies, destroying one, and ripping the weapon off the other with shiruken catapult shots!!! His banshees continued to flee, and the farseer's serpent dropped another missile round on the grots, pinning them again. The wraithlord moved up, and hit Bob with star cannon fire, putting one wound on him. The lone exarch from the other banshee squad assaulted the skorcha buggy, stunning it. He moved his falcon back away from harm's (read Bob's) way.

Bob moved back to get some protection from shooting, and again we unloaded into the wraithlord, but couldn't kill it.

Turn 6.

The falcon came back over the hill, full of vigor, and took out another can with the pulse laser. The Wraithlord emerged from the woods, and killed 2 shootaz with starcannon, and four more from flamer shots! The shootaz broke and ran back towards the other shoota mob. The bright lance wave serpent missed, as did the farseer's. His lone exarch failed her test, and broke and fell back away from the stunned skorcha. The other falling back banshees shot and destroyed the weaponless buggy with shiruken pistol fire. Finally, his firedragons moved up through the woods, slow roasting two grots. The grots stuck in, however, and were salivating from the smell of roasted meat.

The shootaz mobbed up with the other shootaz, putting two more big shootaz into that unit. The dreadnought fired at the farseer's wave serpent, hit, and stunned it. The sluggaz with rokkits fired at the falcon, and ripped off the pulse laser from that vehicle. The rest of the big shoota fire ripped into the firedragons, wiping them from the battlefield in one turn of shooting. Finally Bob, being Bob, charged the wraithlord, just ta show him who's boss.

The wraithlord swung, and hit bob twice, wounding once. There was a pause on the battle field as the panzee construct's huge fist crushed Bob to the ground. As the dust began to settle, there was a strange whiirr - snnnnnk - snikkk noise, as the Mark XVII Gooba model cybork body repaired itself, and with an evil grin (well, he really doesn't have any other grins), Bob swung back, and very neatly cut the wraithlord in two. With a mighty WAAAAGH, Bob advanced on the Falcon!

Turn 7.

Yup, turn 7. Rolled up an additional turn! His shooting did little except putting another wound on Bob. Bob charged the falcon again

but could, once again, only stunn the damn thing.

Game Over:

We calculated 1501 victory points for the orks, and 1100 for the panzee. Orks win, solid victory

Konviktz Win!!
