Campaign - Surprise At Pearl - Conclusion

Round 1 Dark Eldar vs Space Wolves Patrol Winner- Dark Eldar!

Notes:

This was a 1500 point battle, Patrol mission straight from the WH40k 3rd ediition rule book.

Note the our Dark Eldar player didn't have his army; weather delays meant his luggage didn't make it until 2300 hours on Friday. He used a spare eldar army as a proxy, meaning we didnt' take a lot of pictures. We'll fill in battle details as we get them - in the mean time, here are a few pictures.

Battle Report:

Kabal of the Bloody Nightmare - Wolf Hunter

Turn 1: Archon X'rCist's Raider Skiff landed just south of the small agrarian village on the lush planter Pearl Haven. His other warriors would follow soon enough but the first blood would be his. He glared menacingly back at his retinue. They were adorned in their razor edged heavy battle armor with intricate power swords known as punishers locked into their grav-scabbards at their sides. Those they didn't kill outright were dragged, armored glove biting into bone leaving only a trail of blood where it's victim once stood.

Scanning the deserted village, the archon smiled hideously as he found the target and thrust the raider forward, a pale blue rhino with that pathetic beast idol logo that he'd seen far too many times throughout the universe. Space Wolves, indeed, more like pups. Today the whelps would be slaughtered. The raider sped silently up to a covered point and stopped
dead. The archons retinue vaulted acrobatically over the sides, their dense carapace armor not hindering them in the least. The raider's disintegrator fired it's purple gobbet of warp energy but the shot went wide. Archon X'rCist would flay the crew later.

From the other side of the field the rhino roared noisily forward and excreted forth a squad of space puppies. They huddled nervously around the vehicle. Surely their commander was inept, bringing it's troops closer to the thresher of death.. The wolves would have liked to target the raider but alas no line of sight.

Turn 2: More of the Dark Eldar's Kabal arrived. Another purple and red decorated raider came forth and out danced with exquisite grace the Writhing Widows. Their wych weapons still wet with the gore of their spar victims. Their raider fired it's disintegrator and the rhino's weapon system melted into the warp. Before the marines could empty their bladders, their power armor began leaking blood as the wyches ran through. The Archon and his retinue strode forward arrogantly to disguise their disgust, the wyches robbed them of first blood.

On the marines side, more suits of armor dripped blood as the village remained hauntingly silent. Where had this patrols brethren gone?

Turn 3: A trio of high pitched maniacal giggles filled the Archon's neurocomm. The Haemonculi had arrived. To the right of the Archon and his retinue, a squad of warriors warped in and then murder machine known as Talos. It drifted peacefully toward the melee of wyches and space wolves.

Overhead, a large gothic shadow from the Ravager cast darkness on the battling wolves, foreshadowing their doom. The space wolves had brought another rhino and a whirlwind on the distant side of the farm. Their load of battle hungry marines already disembarked. The wyches raider ended the fate line of the first rhino with another blast from its disintegrator. The second rhino found itself suddenly surrounded by a host of black winged batlike troupes, scourges. Several marines fell but not enough to drive them back. A massive explosion at the far side of the farm followed by a sickeningly sweet smelling pillar of smoke showed the ravager had lived up to its name. Archon Xr'Cist inhaled deeply hoping to taste whatever was left of the whirlwind and its crew. However the moment was cut short, as the smoke cleared, a devastator squad minus a few marines stood grimly amongst the pale charred blue wreckage.

Tactical sergeant Ursine ordered a fighting retreat if the wyches would permit. Only three of the squad remained. It seemed bleak but then he heard the cries of conquest and blood lust as Canus Squad ripped into the scourges leaving no survivors. Viciousness was a wolf trait. "Rally to Canus!", Ursine roared as he stepped back while dodging the twirl on wyche blades.

Turn 4: The haemonculi snuck closer to the devastator squad, their destructor muzzle dripping caustic acid, soon the would be in range. The ravager targeted the rhino of Canus squad and it became warp dust. Nothing could stem the victory. Archon Xr'Cist and his retinue attempted to cut off the marines retreating tactically which was now also being hunted by the Talos. The retinue fired it's splinter pistols and dropped one of the marines. The wyche raider dropped more of squad Canus as the wyches themselves charged forward.

The small farmhouse shuddered violently as a large venerable dreadnaught burst on the scene. It's assualt cannon left little identifiable of the three haemonculi. The ancient honored warrior inside smiled with fleshless lips and moved to intercept the Archon's raider which had moved to cover the sneaking haemonculi. Behind the dreadnaught, Fenris Wolfclaw stalked onto the battlefield with coldness in his eyes, on either side of the commander were his two pets, huge alpha male wolves that snarled in ferocity to match their masters mood. Fenris's men lay dead on the field that denied him a timely entrance with a warp storm. Now was time to avenge.

Turn 5: The raider took aim at the monstrous form of the dreadnaught and fired. It struck the metalic behemoth but did no damage. The crew of the ravage nailed the antigrav and popped the skimmer straight onto the roof of the farmhouse and a perfect view of everything. Three pulses from the disintegrators struck hard into the devastator squad and the Space Wolf Commander. Howls of agony filled the comms as the commander's wolves were incinerated with two other devastators. All that stood was Fenris and a marine holding a very hot missile launcher. The archon wheeled around and sped toward the opposite side of the farmhouse to meet the dreadnaught. The wyches recaptured the two marines from the first tactical squad, the wept tears of bio-engineered blood as they were carried off into eternal slavery.

The taste of dead marine filled the air.

Space Wolve long fangs on patrol.

Unfortunately for the Imperium the first round of battles things look bleak...
