Fantasy Watchtower (GW)

a quick review.

Nothing like starting a project with the right tools. Yes, that's the wrong glass, and for you young kids, "sparkling cider" always tastes better in a martini glass. *cough*

The model goes together fairly decently. The base of the tower is the biggest issue, with the front and back being two pieces and a flush mount join. To add to frustation, they actually do bow out a bit.
I decided to not only make assembly easier, but the structure more rigid by adding a strip of extra pcard along the join.
The two sides were better thought out, and had tabs cast to help lock them in place.
I began assembling the model as the instructions mentioned, but stopped and put together the bases tightly before affixing the top sections to keep the joints tight. The instructions note to put the top on to keep it square, but I was able to do a half way decent job with the MK I eyeballs. Rubber bands, large ones, are a god send here. I think on the next one I will assemble the entire bottom first before doing the second floor at all.
Yes, there are actually decent paper instructions, a nice change from the crappy box mounted ones. Nice work here GW.
I put the roof on upside down, to hold it flat.
And finally, with the top house and a few details in place. Sorry for the badly exposed picture.
One of the better parts is the fact the smaller house is removable, providing you with instantly more scenery

So what's my verdict? These building kits are of value to the average gamer. Sure, building scenery can be inexpensive, but this is a quality, fast build that will have almost immediate results, and except for the fiddly bitz like the lanterns I mounted, should be very durable for extended game play. I purchased the "big" set for $125, which included the fortified inn, chapel, watchtower, and 3 sets of walls and fences, and I think this is a fair price as I really don't ever see adding more terrain to my fantasy world.
