Bouillon is only 1 kilometer from France and the home of a fantastic castle. This ancient military structure was complete with a warren of underground passages and hidden rooms that would make the most ambitious rabbit green with envy.
Chateaux Bouillon is Belgium's largest remaining example of medieval military architecture. Its existence is recorder as early as the 10C. Three 17th C. stone drawbridges, each separated by a small fort, defends the castles entrance.
Above ground, the magnificent towers of Chateaux Bouillon command fantastic views of the twin river valleys. Once again, other tourists were few and far between, and we took full advantage of this small detail, including a very poor rendition of an excerpt from of Monty Python's "Quest of the Holy Grail" (video available upon request)
A nominal entrance fee is charged, and public bathrooms are available. Open year round.
