9 months after the 2011 popular revolution in Egypt, we visited the country, and were able to spend a day in Alexandria. The lighthouse is long gone, and while we were hoping to visit the citadel, we could not as there were renewed protests happening that day. Ah, the curse of being an active participant in history.

The old library is long gone, but the new one is fabulous, truly a wonder of the modern world.
