Duxford, England houses the Imperial War Museum, a former RAF base during the 2nd World War. In fact most of this region, East Anglia, was an RAF base in the war. The joke among pilots was to simply get their aircraft back over East Anglia, than drop your gear, your bound to hit pavement somewhere... During that time Duxford was was the home to 3 different Spitfire squadrons.

Today the airfield at Duxford is the home to the Imperial War Museum, originally exclusively airplanes, however recent years have seen the addition of a land war section.

Their aircraft selection dates from the 1st World War up to current day, and is not restricted by nationality or manufacture, and includes a number of civilian aircraft including a concord.

Not only a museum, Duxford has numerous air shows, and a large portion of their aircraft are in flying condition.

If you have any interest in aircraft we would recommend a stop, but be forewarned you will need to devote a number of hours to this museum.

The War Museum is located along the M 11 about 25 kilometers south of Cambridge, and it is well marked. Admission is approximately $10.00 per person.
