York must be one of the most visited of all English cities, and is lauded as being on of the most medieval.

Besides the magnificent Yorkminster Abbey, there is an old part of the town known as the "shambles" that consists of timber frame houses that lean oddly due to settling.

The old medieval city walls still stand in a number of locations, and you can almost completely circumnavigate the city center along their length.

York is worth a visit, and this was our second stop in this city. We spent the afternoon and night here, and although it was a little much for us owing to the number of tourists, once darkness fell and they departed aboard what ever bus brought them, the city emptied out and we were able to fully enjoy the medievalness of York.

We stayed in the St. Deny's hotel a nice little 3 star that is not too far from the center of town (approx. 2 kilometers from the Abbey).

In York we did have one of our best meals, at the Prince William College. Now a restaurant and reception hall, we had a fantastic meal, including a venison pate, roast duck with a balsamic vinaigrette, all washed down with a nice sirah. We would recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly.
