Painting
With all of the parts now attached, it was time for a final coat of black (Citadel Chaos) primer. Note the top of the numberboards had to be smoothed out with Squadron green putty and sanded for a smooth finish.
While that dried, I started painting the frame edge Yellow. Note that I am hand brushing this, as I was afraid about masking incorrectly on the model. The paint color is Floquil Polly S Color Corp Railroad Colors – Canadian National Yellow #12. Many, many thin coats!
And on the model with the shell on.
So far so good.
I touched up the overages with the color I'll be using for the top shell - Badger Air Brush Co. Modelflex Paint – Engine Black. You can see the differences on the toolbox.
After the first coat of paint, I wasn't happy with the finish. You can kind of see the blemishes on the roof of the cab.
And a few on the hood as well.
Unhappy about that, I painted both again, this time with Poly Scale engline black. After this second coat the blemishes are gone, and it looks good!
Once that had dried over night, I began the decaling process. I've just done this one side for the moment, as I wanted to get them on, settled, and sealed.
I realized after the fact, that the long CV decal is about 4 scale inches too low. That, and the yellow safety stripe on the frame needs to be darkened a bit to match.
