Day 4, March 6, 2003

Today I started on the kitchen walls, and Karen continued her assault on the dining room wall paper.

Here's how the kitchen looked. Trust us when we mention that it is really worse than it looks!

The paneling is in aweful condition, edges were loose, and there must have been over 500 nails, screws, and hooks in it. We decided, as we have to live with it for a couple of years, to try smoothing it out.
The first step, after removing hardware and tagging in loose edges where we could, was to fill the vertical cuts in the paneling, as well as left over screw holes.
Than we ran a sander over the entire surface. At this stage, the wall does feel smooth to the touch. We are going to prime it, and than fill again if and where needed.
Meanwhile, Karen deals with the wall paper saga in the dining room. This was MUCH worse than it looked, as the 2nd layer of wall paper just did not want to come off.
Heres a close up of the scored wall paper.

That's four hours of scraping in that 3 x 3 area. This is going to take a while......good thing we're due help on Saturday.
