Chicago, Illinois
Our good friend Chief (ret) Roger Byers invited us into Chicago for his retirement ceremony, and we readily agreed, as we were looking forward to spending a weekend in here. Garbo had lived her for a 5 year period ending in 1995 . That was under the occupation period though, and he was keen to revisit the area under different auspices.
We spent the first day in Chicago proper. We stayed at the Westin on Michigan Avenue, a nice hotel located across the street from the Hancock tower. Our flight got us in early enough that we were able to shop along Michigan Avenue Friday morning, enjoy lunch at the cafe in the new Millennium park, walk down to the Field Museum for a couple of hours, take a water taxi to Navy Pier, spend time there absorbing sun, jazz, and adult carbonated beverages, walk back to the hotel, enjoy a drink at the 95th while the sun set, and finally have a great dinner in Greek Town.
Saturday found us at the Great Lakes Navel Base for Roger's retirement ceremony, a 9 hole golf tournament, and finally a nice reception/dinner in the clubhouse.
We really enjoyed the trip, but a single day in downtown Chicago was not enough. We wanted to go to a cubs game, visit the aquarium, the art museum, etc.
Note that as of this time (30 August 2004) only the digital pictures are posted, we have regular film to develop as well.
