Like 2005, a gropu of us flew down from the Granite State to Balitmore for the single day event. Sadly, other travel plans this weekend meant we couldn't stay over night and participate in the post-gamesday Waaagh events at the Glen Burnie Battle bunker, but there's always next year.
Like the past two years, I brought a single model for the Golden Deamon competitiion. The Dakka-Lith had failed to garner any attention, and even the much brighter Hellhound was a wash. Well, this year I decided to finish off the mighty Kr00zAda, and see how that would go.
Once again, even this model failed to make first cut. The issue would appear to be the darkenss of the model; I should have placed it on a different textured base, and the lighting in the arena is so shockingly poor, on top of the fact that GW judges seem to prefer ultra-realistic paint jobs over the gritty reality ones. Annoyingly another ork model did take 3rd place; a model that, while decently painted, was not very orky at all. Even more disturbing was NightSerpent failing to win an award with his bigmek - he made first cut, but lost out to another big mek! That other big mek won the golden deamon, despite having less conversion work, and an arguablely poorer paint job. In the Fantasy singles, the golden deamon winning model wasn't even completely based (which might have been the artists desire, but still looked wrong), and the 40k squad, a group of extremely nicely painted Eldar Banshees, was a model short of a legal squad (This squad was later disqualified for having been submitted previously by the actual painter...)
I think GW really needs to address their judging system.
We walked around the tournement, and it was full of so-so armies, including the uber lists of cheese, a Sam Hain army with 16 vypers, and of course Armored Company.. Most sad was one of the ork players we watched was apparenlty cheating. A small template was placed down, and the marine opponent lost two models underneath it. We asked him what killed him, and he said a frag rokkit. A frag rokkit? I asked where it came from, and he said that vehicle - not a looter squad in sight. I'm hoping they meant frag round from a vehicle kannon, otherwise the ork player either doesn't know the rules (which is kind of in-excusable in a tournament setting) or was cheating (even more in-excusable in a tournament setting). The good news is the player contacted me via email a week or two later, and verified that it was a frag round from a guntrukk (ork kannon). Phew!
There were a lot of Waaaghers there, Spronston, Hakbash, Nosher, Kaptain Krum, Gathrog, Budro, Night Serpent, Zorbag, Kensai, and Shas'O Bob all made it down.
Here are the lads watching Budro take on Shas O' and Kensai in a pick up game.

As ususal, I really only bought a couple of books, and some loose bits for future conversion work. Gooba, however, found himself in bitz heaven, what with all the battles raging in the room.

Ah, where to begin. How about Kensai's brand new box of Gray Knight Terminators? Can you believe that weedy Inquisitor left his shopping in Goobaz hands while he secured food? |

Now this table feels more like home. |

Sort of a fitting sign. Maybe Gooba needs to have someone manage his calander. |
