Day 13, March 15, 2003
Unlucky 13! Today, a beautiful, long, Saturday, was marked by minimal progress. Why, do you ask? Because someone (me) horribly miscalculated the bull nose tile needed to complete the kitchen counter, costing not only Karen an hour as she drove around locally looking for supplies, but another 3 hours for us both as we finally had to head the 45 miles over the mountains to Home Depot. How the heck did you miscalculate? Well we figure (pun intended) it had something to do with working a full time job plus 4-6 hours a night on the house. I'm going to blame fatigue here, because it couldn't have been anything else ;-)
We did get the downstairs bedroom basically finished, 1/2 the counter tile laid, and I replaced all the switches in the kitchen.
So what did we get accomplished? Here's the downstairs bedroom, as it looked in the morning. |
|
It still needed another coat of paint, and the ceiling needed to be finished.
By the time the day was done, we did get this room, the downstairs bedroom, finished!
Karen spent a good portion of the day working in the living room, sanding trim and old wall paper seams.
We're excited to put a coat of paint up in there.
Well at least she's not in the dining room.
Here's the old counter. Yuck.
Prior to laying the counter top, we pulled out the sink, and will clean that up before reinstalling.
Here;s the new counter top! It looks surprisingly good, especially this being the first one I've done in 10 years. Only 1/2 done though, as we ran out of the f#$%en bull nose edge tiles. Special thanks to Travis for letting me borrow his wet saw, it made all the difference in the world.
Oh no! she's back in the dining room. Maybe she's not allowed anywhere else? Karen caulked the baseboard seams in both the dining and living rooms.
Game over man, game over. At the end of the day, we walked the 6 blocks back to the apartment, stopping at our favorite pizza joint for supper. |
