Phase III.7 Construction Continued!

Primer, tile, and soon enough, paint!

Another wall got a coat of primer. (May 11, 2004)

The shower controls are now fully plumbed, and functional! (May 16, 2004)
We also got the closet door hung. (May 16, 2004)
Shockingly it's perfectly level, and stays wherever you put it! (May 16, 2004)
On the inside, the plywood is up, ready for cedar. (May 16, 2004)
We started tiling the shower enclosure. Here's the first lower course. (May 30, 2004)
Ditto, with a better shot of the shelf. (May 30, 2004)
My ordinal idea was to step down the tile like in this picture - but we decided that it would be better for a functional shower to tile the entire wall. (May 30, 2004)
Had to stop here while these set. (May 30, 2004)
Another shot of the current tile work. (June 1, 2004)
Karen got a coat of primer up on this wall. (June 1, 2004)
And in the bedroom as well. This was the wall with the mural, just in case you forgot! (June 1, 2004)
The bedroom is actually just about ready to paint. (June 1, 2004)
We ran out of cedar for the closet, but it's coming along nicely. (June 1, 2004)
Yet another mis-calculation! I had almost this entire wall tiled, and realized that I didn't calculate the shelf thickness on the left when I did that wall - as a result, the grout lines didn't match up! I was able to pull down and save the tile, and to fix it, we're adding a "decorative" strip of tile to match the shelf. This should fix it without being too ugly. Once this dries, we'll finish the wall. Thank god for the wet saw - imagine trying to cut a 12.5 inch long, .25 inch wide strip by hand! (June 3, 2004)
Slow but steady progress on the tile. THe shower is almost complete. (June 7, 2004)
And with the shower light on. (June 7, 2004)
Just a few more small pieces, and we can grout the shower, and afix the control face plates. (June 7, 2004)
Karen painted the entire bathroom with a coat of the mildew resistant white gloss. It's really looking good. (June 7, 2004)
Karen finished priming the bedroom, its ready for a coat of real paint! (June 8, 2004)
And the cedar closet lining is complete! (June 8, 2004)
Now a coat of paint on the sheetrock, some trim, hang shelves and clothing rod, and this closet is done! (June 8, 2004)
In the bathroom I spent some time getting the next tile ready. I needed to fit it over that exposed pipe (the hand wand fill) (June 8, 2004)
And here's the tile. Why am I showing you this? The tile that we got is SO high quality, that it took me an hour and half to drill through it with a brand new carbide bit. It would get so hot that I needed to cool down not only the drill and bit, but the tile as well - I doused it in water only to have the water boil! That's how hot it got. (June 8, 2004)
Picked up more tile yesterday, and once the power came back on I was able to finish the shower enclosure! (June 10, 2004)
(June 10, 2004)
The few missing tiles on the bottom I will install after the wainscotting tile is installed. Now we need to grout and install the fixtures. (June 10, 2004)
Peter came over and ran a paint roller for us. He got this end done... (June 11, 2004)
and the whole ceiling and walls to boot. We're ready to slap a coat of real paint up! (June 11, 2004)
Besides being commencement weekend here at Dartmouth, we managed to get the majority of the bathroom floor tiled. (June 14, 2004)
We had to set the tile run to "split" the main toilet drain. If everything works out, the grout lines inside the shower should still match up. (June 14, 2004)
But that wasn't all. We also got a finish coat of paint on the walls in the master bedroom closet. (June 14, 2004)
Now this closet just needs some trim, clothing rods, and shelving. (June 14, 2004)
We have final paint up on the main room ceilings. (June 20, 2004)
And the entire bedroom. (June 20, 2004)
It will need a second coat (June 20, 2004)
It's really starting to look like a home (June 20, 2004)
I grouted the shower stall, so we can get the shower controls finished. Here Karen tries it out for size - it's a nice deep tub! (June 20, 2004)
(June 20, 2004)
I grouted the majority of the floor as well - right now we're mostly concerned about getting the toilet flange in place(June 20, 2004)
We got the first coat of the yellow "touch of nectar" up along these two walls. (June 21, 2004)
(June 21, 2004)
And Karen finished off the soon to be linen closet with mildew resisitant paint. The inside wall you cannot see will be lined with cedar. (June 21, 2004)
