Carnasserie Castle is a fortified tower with an adjacent hall house that occupies a commanding position above the main road between Oban and Lochgilphead (currently the A 816)
An excellent example of domestic architecture from the later half of the 1500s, this structure was not only easily defensible, but also easily livable, complete with a gigantic fireplace in which one could roast an entire cow or at once. At the time of our visit, the main keep was in good condition, with only a few major holes in the walls to the outside.
Geographically this castle is just a few kilometers north of Kilmartin, and it is but a short (200m) uphill walk from the road. At the time of our visit, admission to this castle was free, however, no bathrooms are available.
