The Roster: The boyz, led by Warboss Bob, are listed here for your perusal. This is a fixed list, set at 1750 points, so all of the mistakes that I made from the onset I have to deal with for the next 11 weeks. Click here for the complete roster.
The Battles:
Week 1: Our first battle led Bob and the Konviktz against a Sisters of Fluffy Death (Sisters of Battle) force. This one ended up in a draw, and it was a total slaughter fest. My honorable opponent had over 90 models! I only had 107! By the end, we both had less than 20 models left on the table combined. This was the first time that I faced the sisters, and if you haven't played them, beware their faith points - they can really make a difference, not to mention being confusing to non-sister players.
Here the mighty grots assault the main line of the Sister's battle force. This was to prove more than foolhardy, however, as they were wiped out to a git before even getting a chance to strike a blow! |
Week 2: The second battle found Bob and the Konviktz faced up against a wiley chaos player. The mission was a variation of the scouting engagement, the main variation being that reserves could arrive from the sides as well depending on dice rolls. This turned out to be a crucial feature, as my leman russ rolled in on the flank, squarly in different table quadrant - only to be matched the same turn by my opponent's command squad, complete with two melta guns Needless to say, the lemen russ never even got a shot off, and when the 'ard boyz appeared on the same side the next turn, they were slowly chewed up by the same squad (although they did knock out their Rhino, decimate 75% of the squad plus 50% of a hell hound unit that appeared later).
This was a closely fought battle, that ended up in a loss for Bob and the Boyz. For the first time my tactics were sound, but the dice failed. Such is the way of the WAAAGH!
Stuck in the lake, the boyz try rocking the battle wagon to get it out. Meanwhile, slugga boyz, aided by Kurtz kroozaz, slowly chew up a Chaos tactical marine squad.
Nervous shoota boyz prepare to meet a Chaos assault. A well placed flamer template and bolter fire took down all boyz outside of the tower.
Having been softened up by the shooting, Juggernoughts appeared and took the fight to the shootaz. After this, the boyz packed up and ran for their little green lives! The juggernoughts proved to be decisive, for though the battlewagon killed one in a round of shooting, the other managed to finally do in Bob after he dismounted and wiped out almost the entire Chaos marine squad. |
We had a rainy Saturday, so Scarpia was able to fit in another game, and another loss. Someday he might win, until than he's having a blast. Saturday's conflict found Warboss Bob facing Jon Wakelin's chaos army, and more devastatingly, his Bloodthirster. The game turned out to be a good one, but the mission was to be closest to the chosen objective, and Chaos was able to pull it out. Game MVP for our side was the 'ard boy nob, who took out the demon prince in a single round of hand to hand (3 wounds!)
The gitz attack! Here they are about to be assaulted, and I mean assaulted by no less than two different chaos squads including Khorne Beserkers! The good part was this set up a counter charge by both slugga boyz, 'ard boyzm and Bob himself.
On the other side of the table Grotstompa, the dreadnought, begins to loose pieces from shooting attacks. He would die this turn from hand to hand assault from the daemon prince.
Uh oh - the bloodthirster rolls in in a perfect place. This does not look good!
Besides being a great looking model, this baddie single handily turned back the green tide - even squashing Bob himself flat (would yo believe that it came down to a single die roll - I couldn't roll a 5 or 6 to save Bob's life!) |
Week 3: Finally, we face something besides Chaos! Dark Angels swept in against us, in a modified recon mission. Despite the trukk boyz getting obliterated by a whirlwind early on, the start of the game went well, Ork shooting in turn two resulted in a destroyed land raider (can you say ZZAP gun?) a turretless predator, an immobilized rhino, and another one stunned. Things looked good for victory until the last turn, when he was able to restart two of his stuck rhinos, and a few well placed blows from a thunderhammer rendered the battlewagon a whole new project for the meks. The final result? 770 points of Ork destroyed, 830 Marine-a tie, and a good game to boot.
Is that a Land Raider? This doesn't look good. Should have brought the demolisher....
Thank Gork for ZZap guns - so much for the raider. But look what it was carrying. Bob, Oh Bob....
Unfortunately for the Imperium, there are few squads, including Termies, that can handle a charge by no less than 17 sluggas, a nob, and the mighty warboss himself.
Victory hinged upon this template from the russ (at the bottom of the picture) smashing down the marine squad underneath. All it had to do was not deviate, and not deviate on the wagon. The result? it deviated uselessly into the woods! Ork shooting strikes again! |
Week 4: We missed this week due to real life interruptions!
Week 5: Finally, Bob and the Konviktz manage to eek out a win! No pictures, but here are details.
Cleanse Mission, against the Black Templars.
Setup: Bob chose a bad corner, and proceeded to ignore smart placement of heavy units, allowing the Templars to deploy a predator right in the table center! Templars go first!
Turn 1: Templar shooting results in a few minor casualties, no major losses. Units charge forward towards Bob's table quarter. Orks return fire, the zzap gun on the battlewagon ripping his dreadnought to shreds.
Turn 2: Templar shooting stuns ork dread, troops move in to closer hand to hand, they continue to decimate the slugga boyz. In the assault phase, his assault jumppack troops charge the burna boyz. Ork turn, the 'ard boyz unload and knock down the assault marines to just 3 models. Elsewhere, poor shooting results in the destruction of a weapon on a rhino
Turn 3: Templars destroy dread with shooting, and charge in and wipe out the slugga boyz. Heavy bolter fire continues to take its toll on the tankbustas. Ork turn, the skorcha trakk moves up, and the 'ard boyz eliminate the assault marines, consolidate back into the battlewagon.
Turn 4: templars assault and immobilize the skorcha trakk, two other squads disembark from rhinos and prepare to assault the leman russ and shoota boyz. Predator destroys battlewagon, ard boyz bail out the back (but not BOB!) Ork trukk boyz move up and forget to jump out, shooting from russ, tankbustas, and shootaboyz results in 5 casualties in one squad, and 4 in another. Bob advances angrily towards the predator (all, alone), 'ard boyz decide to secure their table quarter.
Turn 5: templars destroy skorcha trakk, and fail to destroy the truck boyz. Whirlwind deviates uselessly! One squad assaults the shoota boyz, and he shoots two wounds onto Bob. The last three burna boyz light up the predator, destroying its turret. The battle cannon on the russ rings out, and wipes out half a squad of marines. The tank busters destroy the remnants of one unit, and than charge into hand to hand with the marines fighting the shootaz. The trukk wheels up, and unloads, the trukk boyz slamming into the unit that is about to assault the russ, wiping out 7 marines in one round. The emperor's champion calls out a challenge to the nob of the tankbustas, and is very surprised to find himself wounded and the ork still grinning! The gitz start shooting, and kill two marines that are not in hand to hand! Bob charges the predator, and rips it apart with his claw.
Turn 6: The Templar Chaplain assaults the trukkboyz, and is killed. Shooting puts the final wound on bob, and takes out the rokkit trakk. Bob is gunned down like a dog, and the whirlwind moves behind cover. It is now down to one close combat, and the Templar's assault the russ, destroying the turret and stunning it. In retribution, the gitz line up, and blastas blazin, shoot down two more of them, leaving the table quarter clearing in Ork possession!!! Go Gitz!
