Triple play on the Mall
Lebanon, NH

Round 2

Opponents:Tau and 'umies.

Mission: Unplanned Assault

We lost the deployment zone role, but won the choice of turns. As the objective of the battle was undetermined, we chose to go second.

Deployment: This mission only allowed you two core units on the table, all else came in as reserves. I deployed the grots and shoota boyz, Zorbag stuck out a buggy and a truckboy unit. Facing us were two squads of Firewarriors, and a gazillion 'umie.

Ork deployment

Ork deployment

deployment of weediness

The freak flyboyz wounded and pinned a couple of 'umie squads.

Turn 1:

They shuffled around a bit, and that was it. I swung the grots and charged them across to the short table quarter as far as they could go. The shootaz opened up with Big shootas (it is so nice out-shooting tau), and killed two Firewarriors. The trukkaz zoomed up full speed, and hid behind a ruined building. The buggy moved up the otherside of the table, and killed another Firewarrior.

Turn 2:

Their reserves came on, a stealth suit squad, a crisis suit, and other infantry units. They continued to move up, and shot the snot out of the buggy with las cannons. Immobilized, and weapon destroyed!

Our turn to roll for reserves – nothing. Not one thing. I rolled threes for everything, He rolled for his – nothing. It was at this time that we realized he could have rolled on turn one for KoS rules – doh!

So we didn’t have much to do. The grots moved closer to a big building, and the shoota boyz shot and missed. The buggy got re-mobilized (yeah, riggers!) and that was it. Or was it?

Suprize, Fish'eadz!

Zorbag exhibited a un-characteristic orkiness (normally, he likes to shoot a lot with his army), and blasted his one truck on the table through the ruined building, passing all his difficult terrain tests. He unloaded, shot, assaulted, and wiped out the stealth suit squad in the first round, immediately buying back their victory points. With a huge roll, he was able to roll into the Firewarrior squad in the bunker, and the one crisis suit on the table.

WAAAAGH!

Lets just say we were really cheering at this stage, especially as we only had one truck boy unit, grots, 16 shoota boyz, and a smashed up buggy on the table! This had a pretty detrimental effect on our opponents, who were now faced with the (real) possibility that this truck boy unit could bounce from unit to unit.

Git'em ladz!

Turn 3:

The mission was determined – straight victory points. And we were up!

All of their stuff came on. Three broadsides, another crisis suit, two hellhounds, and a russ, just to name the fun stuff. The crisis suit rolled up and counter charged the trukkboyz, and the hellhounds, with russ backing them up, rolled down the left side of the table. The Broadsides moved out to control the center street, that was basically open the whole, sadly 72 inch long street. The shooting resulted in the trukkboyz truck getting smoked, and the combat continued with one crisis suit and three more Firewarriors dying, along as four trukkaz. A tie, and the boyz stuck it in.

Ooof - were iz da rest of da ladz?

Oh oh - dis don't look good!

We rolled reserves, and finally we got some! His tankbustaz and another trukkboy squad showed up, as well as Zorbag himself. On my side, I got my kanz, and the lemen russ! The issue here is that there was no way my kanz were going to see combat – they were just so far back that they were not going to make it in. So I moved the russ out into the central street, and parked two kans in front of it, giving it an obscured against the broadside retaliation. The shootaz kept firing, and killed two 'umie, the grots continued to dig in the ruined building. The russ boomed, and killed two more 'umie. WhooHoo. Right now, I was thinking maybe a bassie would have been a better choice…

Encouraged by his earlier move, Zorbag zoomed up the tankbustaz, hiding them securely. The damaged but mobile buggy moved farther up the table, and hid. His other trukkaz likewise hid out of sight and weapon range. Close combat saw another wound on the other crisis suit, and another Firewarrior die, but the trukkaz finally died in CC – dead, but well worth the sacrifice.

Turn 4:

The armor continued to move down the left side, setting up to control the alley way. The broadsides keyed on my leman russ, and thanks to the obscured roll, only left it stunned.

We got the rest of our reserves (like my sluggaz would have anything to do at that time), and his lemen russ rolled up next to mine. I moved out the rest of my kanz to protect both russes, and my shooting (the slugga boyz) did nothing. He, however, moved up the tankbustaz, and lined up for a shot at the more exposed hellhound. Two rokkits hit, and left it a smoking hulk – a six on the glance! This was perfect, as now the wreck blocked the other one and the russ from advancing. Another ork WAAAAAGH echoed!

Turn 5:

The 'umie player took a chance, and tried to drive his other hellhound through the same ruined building that the trukkaz had blasted through. His luck, however, failed him, and he immobilized on the way in, trapping his hellhound uselessly, nose in the building and unable to see anything. What luck! The tau player realized the kanz were a pain, and pounded them with rail gun fire, destroying one, and ripping the weapon off the other. Our two russes reply’d, and deviated onto them, killing two drones (2+ armor saves and all), as well as 5 Firewarriors, who held.

Our turn, and I shuffled more kanz out for mobile cover. The russes sent shells screaming down field, and killed a variety of 'umie troops, but they held. Zorbag shouted, and the tankbustaz continued their aggressive stance, popping around the corner, and put two more rokkits into the leman russ – destroying that tank was well!

Turn six:

Our opponents were getting desperate. The broadsides shot, but failed to destroy a kan or a russ. Our final parting shots with the leman russes finally made another 'umie unit break and flee off the table.

Results:

Orks Win!!! This was all spreed freak, the Konviktz didn't do much but sacrifice a Kan to protect our russes.

Bob: No datz wuz sum good' shootin' n' krumpin' Zorbag. Yer almost proppa!
Zorbag: Dem fish'eadz n' oomiez didn't know what hit'em
