Scenery — Yard Facilities
The yard on the other end of the layout had a couple of sidings, and the site for the future enginehouse. After using this for a few months, the layout was rather limited.
October 23 2008
I decided to splice in a new turnout, and expand the yard to a degree. First up was razor sawing the flex track right past the magnet.
October 25 2008
With that piece torn up, I added in more cork to level out the entire area.
October 25 2008
I had "found" another peco turnout that I had, so I put it in as well. Here, I'm using a spacer from Micro Mark to set my paralell lines.
October 25 2008
The end result is a small yard - the sidings are very short, but still usable. new middle one holds 2 cars, and the small one a single 50' car. This also means that I can leave cars spotted at the freight depot, and by leaving the small spur to the right clear, I can use it to back past the lower left turnout and spot cars at the town loading dock.
You'll notice that I also redid the siding next to the engine house track; curving it was necessary to fit in the new small spur.
October 25 2008
The yard area was finally ballasted (the straight section to the far right is where the engine house is going.)
November 16, 2008
I realized after ballast dried, that I had created dead spots due to the insulated turnouts. I also was pretty short on suitcase connectors (just two left). Not wanting to tear up some ballast, I decided instead to add the feaders at the end of the stubs. This allowed me to solder the three feeders together below the layout with one being long enough to connect to the bus with my remaining suitcase connectors.

Of course, now I had to hide them. First up were the bumper stops from Caboose.

Than a layer of turf, mixed colors and sizes
December 6, 2008
Finally some trees, shrubs, etc. This is a mix of Woodland Scenics ground foam, Busch trees, Woodland Scenics pre-made trees, Super Trees, and Silfor.
December 6, 2008
Another view. I don't consider this 100% done at this point. I think I'll make the tracks look less used after this dries.
December 6, 2008
This is a very small yard - the middle track only holds these two small coal hoppers; the outside track one car. Still, as I had nothing before, I'm pleased with it.

December 6, 2008
I wasn't sure what I was waiting for concerning scenicking other areas, so I went ahead and turfed some other large areas that were waiting. I also plugged in the majority of the pine trees that I had waiting around.
December 8, 2008
Next up I need to get the Super Tree production ramped up.

I'm intending on a "path" from the road to the water that will wind through the trees (the greener section of turf)
December 8, 2008
With the addition to my scenery arsenal of the static grass applicatior, I've gone back and redone some areas (more to do).
February 10, 2009
The difference in texture is amazing (and the color doesn't hurt either).
February 10, 2009
In between the two yard feeds, I added a small wet/drainage area, using the Bog mixture from Scenic Express, and two sets of static grass around it.
February 10, 2009
More static grass, this time around the yard.

More static grass.
