Phase III.10 Construction Continued!

It's been a very long time since we've posted up any updates, mostly because there haven't been any. The other house on Prospect kept most of our attentions the summer of 2005, and we're only now (Feb 2006) ready to get started again.

The house had an odd built in desk, and we saved the stock from it to use around the top of our staircase enclosure. However, years of use has left it in various stages of condition, none of them good. (6 February, 2006)

With the big DeWalt planer in hand, it's time to clean this guy up. (6 February, 2006)
(6 February, 2006)
After the first 1/8 inch pass on the planer. (6 February, 2006)
And after the second 1/8 inch pass on the planer. (6 February, 2006)

Finally, a 1/32 finish pass. Not too bad! This may actually work out! (6 February, 2006)

Just as a reminder, this is where the boards are going. Sadly the smaller board on the outside warped after planing. (12 March, 2006)
Back in the shop, I tagged in the buscuits(12 March, 2006)

And clamped everthing up tight.(12 March, 2006)
You can see the smaller board is just a bit twisted, and as a result, the top is slightly off. (12 March, 2006)
And after a few moments with a hand planer and a sander, well it doesn't look too bad (14 March, 2006)

I'm still considering filling in the seam with filler, but it's only that visable where the smaller board warped. (14 March, 2006)

And another aside, this is the space as we're working on it now. (12 March, 2006)

Ok, back to work! Next up was cutting the short part of the L to the top of the staircase enclosure; I had to piece together a couple of 2 x 8s to get close to the recycled wood. Here it is mounted, and ready to sand. (2 July 2006)
And sanded, and stained.(2 July 2006)
Not too bad of a join.(2 July 2006)
We got this on our trip to Hawaii, lets just say the mailman hates it. (2 July 2006)
And my new ride. No, not really. They're still tearing up our street. (2 July 2006)
The staircase enclosure is just about finished, just in time for us to never use it, as we purchased a new house that we will move to (19 July 2006).
Really kind of sad, after all our hard work, and it looks exactly like we envisoned. (19 July 2006)
Note the completed window trim as well. (19 July 2006)
